Joanne is a community food activist and permaculture facilitator whose work with Síolta Chroí connects people back to where their food comes from.
Background
Joanne is a community food activist with a particular interest in fungi and mushrooms. She holds an MSc in Food Security and a Permaculture Design Certificate, and works as a community workshop facilitator. Over the last eighteen months she has trained around 120 people in mushroom cultivation, and she facilitates a number of courses and events for Síolta Chroí — including farm open days, chicken-tractor builds, and introductions to food forest design. She is currently based in Donegal.
Approach & philosophy
Joanne's facilitation style is hands-on, generous and rooted in food sovereignty — the idea that communities should have the knowledge and means to feed themselves well. At Síolta Chroí she brings that ethos into permaculture courses, food forest design and grower workshops, helping participants leave with practical skills they can put into use the next day.
Recognition
Joanne has trained more than 120 people in mushroom cultivation over the past 18 months.
